Editor's Arts and Culture Picks Thursday–Sunday (Sept 1–5)
Labor Day Weekend is upon us
Labor Day Weekend means trips to the beach, BBQs, and day drinking in general. For New Yorkers, the holiday marks one of the most anticipated events of the season, The West Indian Day Parade & Carnival. On Monday, September 5th, skip the beach and head to Crown Heights to experience a Caribbean cultural explosion. Steel-pan and calypso bands, a variety of authentic food, visually stunning costumes constructed with feathers and beads, finished off with the most fabulous headdresses you’ve ever seen. You can start your holiday weekend off with a free performance by Alicia Keys tomorrow night, or head to (le) poisson rouge on Saturday for Dollypalooza: an epic tribute to Dolly Parton. Meanwhile, the 9th annual Governor’s Island Art Fair kicks off and The Farm on Kent throws a day party. Then, Lady Fag’s Battle Hymn returns for another season of Sunday Raves. Kaitlyn Hamilton
