Dear Members
The DSAA is currently developing a five-year strategy to respond to these immediate crises, and most importantly, map a path forward over the medium term for both the DSAA, and Development Studies in Australian universities. We are initiating a process of consultation, and are seeking input from each Development Studies department across universities in Australia, and of course from our members. In particular, we wish to collate views/perspectives around:
- The current state of Development Studies in Australia
- The most critical threats we are facing and how we can collectively respond
- The opportunities for Development Studies, and strategies to take advantage of them
- The priorities of the DSAA over the next five years
- Establishing processes of consultation between DSAA and academic departments.
We are organising a series of online discussions. We would like to invite you to attend the discussion time that suits you, with the Friday session set aside for students. If you are interested in attending, please register for one of the following sessions:
We appreciate that the pressures on academics’ and students’ time is increasing. We nonetheless hope that you share the importance of identifying strategies that can strengthen development studies in Australia for our long-term health, if not survival! Please also pass on this invitation to anyone who may be interested.
The outcome of this consultation will be circulated in a report to each participant, and shared with DSAA members at the Annual General Meeting in November 2020. Further information about the AGM, and the nominations to stand for election, will be circulated very soon.
Thank you for your time. If you have any questions or queries at all, do not hesitate to get in touch.
Sincerely, on behalf of the DSAA committee
Tanya Jakimow
