Next Week's Service: Through the Eyes of a Child: Independence Day

This service celebrates Independence Day, in all its complications and nuance. Together we will explore our own freedom and how fighting for our democracy is not finished work. Service is led by the Rev. Julie Conrady, Minister of the UU Church of Birmingham, Alabama, with Lucy DeSa on accompaniment.

What are the benefits of setting up a recurring donation?
  • Reduces check writing for frequent donors
  • Allows donations to continue uninterrupted during absences
  • Allows donations to be spread out over time
  • Reduces administrative time for the UUSO

Call for Nominations of Possible "Share Our Plate" Organizations

As a congregation, we put our UU values into practice by supporting local social-justice and service organizations. The Share Our Plate program gives half of all weekly collection-plate donations for each month to a pre-selected local nonprofit organization. Each summer the Social Action Team compiles a list of recipient organizations for the coming year from September through August.

We are requesting that UUSO members and friends suggest appropriate nonprofits in Otsego County and neighboring communities to consider for inclusion in the upcoming 12 months. (See the 2020-2021 list by month on the UUSO website at for examples.)

If you know of a worthy local nonprofit organization in addition to the ones already listed, please contact the Social Action Team Coordinator of UUSO's Share Our Plate program, Carol Malz. Please provide a short paragraph with the full legal name of the organization; their mission statement; a key community project, program, or service; and verification of 501(c)(3) status. The deadline for submissions is June 30

The Social Action Team deeply appreciates the congregation's continued support of this program.

Share Our Plate

Each month the congregation shares the Sunday morning offering with a local nonprofit organization that manifests Unitarian Universalist principles in the greater community.

This month our contribution will go to OWL — Oneonta World of Learning. OWL is a community resource providing a place for interactive learning through play for children and their grownups. Located in Fortin Park, OWL is the only children’s museum for 60 miles.
