Dear Catechists,

Peace be with you.

Catechesis in Stabilisation Phase

We refer MCCY’s advisory, THE STABILISATION PERIOD PHASE TWO (HEIGHTENED ALERT) TIGHTER MEASURES FOR RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES” updated 18 Oct 2021. The Office for Catechesis would like catechetical ministries to observe the following from the period 25 Oct onwards in addition to what was released in our earlier announcement:

  1. Catechesis (Children, Youth and RCIA) should continue, whether online or otherwise, as you complete the schedule for term 4.

  2. Should you decide to conduct face-to-face catechesis for ages 12 and below, do adhere to the new guidelines concerning the Fast and Easy Testing (FET) as given by MCCY. More information can be found here:

  3. Do note that for those 13 years and above, the FET does not apply to them.

  4. As you plan, do consider the new developments in allowances for religious classes under the new guidelines. While we do acknowledge that catechesis is done more effectively face-to-face, we do recognise that there are limitations on numbers as well as the safety precautions needed. Therefore, for some parishes, it might not be feasible to resume face-to-face catechesis for all levels on a weekly basis.

For such parishes, we would like to propose some ways to do a hybrid of face-to-face and online catechetical sessions, especially for youths 13 years and above
  • For each level to have face-to-face sessions once or twice a month, or alternate terms, so that the numbers can be spread out, depending on the allowed capacity the parish can handle safely.

  • For levels preparing for the sacraments, to have face-to-face sessions, to better prepare the candidates.

  • For parish teams to consider holding face to face catechetical sessions away from mass timings (weekday nights or other timings of lower human traffic)

  1. In any case, do consult your parish priest and the parish’s safe management team before proceeding to make any plans with regards to face to face catechesis. Catechetical ministries are reminded to adhere to the updated guidelines dated 18 Oct 2021 and re-submit their SMPs for approval in the event they wish to proceed with face-to-face sessions 2 days prior to the conduct of the session.
  2. The medium of delivery for all OFC courses is being reevaluated. Should there be  changes, participants will be informed of the outcome via email at least 2 days before the commencement of each session.
  3.  For all latest updates regarding precautionary measures, please refer to

Please feel free to contact us should you require further assistance from us.
We continue to keep every catechist in prayer as we embark on using new means to share our faith with the candidates.

God Bless,
