Catholic social teaching is the body of doctrine developed by the Catholic Church on matters of social justice, involving issues of poverty and wealth, economics, social organization and the role of the state.
Topics include
  1. Introduction to Catholic Social Teaching
  2. Human Persons & Common Good
  3. Layered Societies & Social Principles
  4. Work & Economy
  5. Leadership & Globalization
  6. Catechetical praxis and applications
This course seeks to introduce to the participants the Church's teachings on matters of social justice, involving issues of poverty and wealth, economics, social organization and the role of the state. It aims to facilitate catechists in their understanding and practice of what it means to uphold their Catholic identity as agents for love, peace and justice, called to build a just society that respects the life and dignity of the human person.

*Catholic Social Teachings is one of seven modules for the Basic Catechesis Course (BCC), the recommended basic requirements for all catechists, including Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), home-based and special needs catechists.

The other modules are
  • Liturgy: The Mass
  • Scripture
  • Evangelisation and Mission Workshop
  • Introduction to Morality 
  • * Human Sexuality
  • In addition, catechists are required to attend a Retreat to complete their BCC requirements
* Introduction to Morality is a pre-requisite for Human Sexuality and Catholic Social Teachings
