Dear Campus Community,

Tomorrow we will dedicate the new Karen M. Swindler Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Karen graduated from Mines in 1988 with a chemical engineering degree and was an instrumental leader and passionate supporter of her alma mater. This endowment is the largest in university history; it extends her legacy in perpetuity. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of her husband Lee (EE 88) and the entire Swindler family. Please consider attending the dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 7, in the Pearson Alumni & Conference Center.

It’s good to see COVID numbers in the surrounding community trending downward. But COVID is still very much with us, and we must remain diligent to avoid further spread on campus. Please continue to follow protocols that will keep yourself and our campus community safe.

We are offering a second vaccination clinic on campus for students. The clinic will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. at Student Health Services in the Surbeck Center on Oct. 14.  Students can sign up by making an appointment with Student Health Services or by scanning the QR code in the photo below.

This week the South Dakota Board of Regents is meeting on campus. I encourage everyone to follow along with the proceedings. Finally, don’t forget the football game this weekend. Make sure to come to O’Harra Stadium at noon on Saturday to cheer on the Hardrockers.

Stay safe, everyone.

Warm Regards,
