Superintendent Vacancy

The Dayton School District Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified candidate with empowering leadership skills and exceptional experience in education administration to serve as Superintendent beginning July 1, 2023. The successful candidate must have experience as an administrator, outstanding communication skills, unquestionable integrity and willing to be involved in the community. 
Location: Dayton, Oregon | Enrollment: 950 students
Salary: $160,000 to $175,000 annually, plus benefits

The Position
The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license and provide proof of compliance with OAR 333-019-1030 (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Teachers and School Staff).

The successful candidate will also have the following personal and professional qualities:
  • High degree of integrity/honesty with strong core values; culturally competent; respectful of all groups.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Works well with others; strong collaborator that inspires and empowers students, staff, parents and community members.
  • Puts KIDS first; is committed to serving all kids.
  • Proven ability to make tough decisions when necessary and effectively communicate the reasons (transparency).
  • Highly visible in our community and schools.
  • Ability to build and sustain strong, effective family/community/business partnerships that impact student success.
  • Is personable/approachable while keeping an open mind; good sense of humor.
  • Background in teaching and building administration; an instructional leader with strong academic credentials.
  • Understands Oregon school finance, demonstrates sound fiscal management and strong budgeting skills; is well organized.
  • Has experience in recruiting, retaining, and developing highly qualified staff.
  • Proven track record of using school data and collaboration to build student success.
The District
The Dayton School District serves approximately 1,000 students in one grade school, one junior high school, and one high school. The District employs a staff of 64 licensed employees, 43 classified employees, nine confidential employees, and five administrators.

The District has a general fund budget of about $13.2 million and passed a capital improvement bond of $11M in 2019. The District was recognized for top FFA and CTE programs, 1:1 computer-to-student ratios, and offers consistently competitive sports programs participating in state playoffs for all fall sports.

The Community
Dayton public schools are in the heart of Dayton, Oregon, located in western Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley, between McMinnville and Newberg. Situated in scenic Yamhill County among vineyards, nurseries, and a variety of crop fields, Dayton’s rural setting is convenient to McMinnville, Salem, and Portland, Oregon.
