Students Spend Summer Immersed in College Life
Over 1,000 GEAR UP students were immersed in the college experience, explored careers and advanced their academic and personal goals while improving summer learning gains.
Students spent 85,275 hours engaged in enrichment programs, from residential/ commuter college prep and social emotional academies to accelerated math and dual enrollment opportunities. Learn more here.

College Visits, Workshops Boost Family Engagement
In less than two months since the 2022-23 school year started, GEAR UP parents have hit the ground running, participating in several activities to enhance their college, career and financial literacy knowledge. Some parents even had the opportunity to live and learn on the UCLA campus!

GEAR UP 4 LA aims to significantly increase student success in high school, persistence in college, and preparation for career and life-long learning through equity, inclusion and access to higher education opportunities.
Along with our partners, our dedicated team - including our Central team, site coordinators, counselors, academic advisors, counselor aides and family engagement staff - provides counseling, mentoring, college visits, workshops and more to students and their families starting in middle school through their first year of college.

The Princeton Review
A partner for more than a decade, The Princeton Review provides students with 24/7 tutoring through Tutor.com, bilingual workshops to bring college admissions information to life and other college resources. In anticipation of upcoming ACT/SAT exams, test prep classes and workshops are also offered.
“We have seen firsthand the amazing results when GEAR UP students are provided high-quality college access services," Western Regional Director Ed Ceja said. "Each year, we work with GEAR UP students to help improve their grades, better understand the college admissions process and ultimately gain admission to the finest colleges and universities across the country.”

Coca-Cola Scholars Program: Oct. 31
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is an achievement-based $20,000 scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors.
Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. Applications are due Oct. 31.

The Transition to College: A GU4LA Family Panel
We know it can be difficult for parents to let their children go to college, and for children to leave home, but in this Los Angeles Unified Family Academy panel, GU4LA parents and their students discuss their hopes and fears and how they prepared for transitioning from high school to college.
