Important Update
Dear Members,

We are writing to let you know about two very important public consultations happening imminently that you may be unaware of.  These consultations are available both face-to-face and online and we'll provide all relevant links below.  The Society Executive Committee would be very grateful if you could also pop us an email to info@sudburysociety.org.uk letting us know your thoughts, so that we can ensure that we represent the views of the members fairly.

We've also included a reminder of this month's Society meeting event and would love to see you there.

Churchill Homes - Land Adjacent to Belle Vue

"Churchill Retirement Living’s proposals seek to redevelop land adjacent to Belle Vue House for a modern and beneficial development of a retirement living development comprising retirement flats, including communal facilities, access, car parking and landscaping.  This consultation is presented on behalf of Churchill Retirement Living and invites you to view and provide feedback on our initial proposals to redevelop the land adjacent to Belle Vue House at the intersection of Newton Road and Cornard Road in Sudbury".

You can take a look at the plans on the link below, or alternatively a public exhibition will also be held at Sudbury Town Hall in the Assembly Rooms on Friday 15th October from 10 am to 3pm where members of Churchill's team will be available to help answer questions and discuss the plans.

October Society Meeting

Join us for a screening of Stanley's War, a film by Tim Curtis.
This event is a fundraiser for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Stanley’s War dramatises stories of love and sacrifice, following the lives of Suffolk people during WW1. The film recounts the true life-changing experiences at the Western Front of Stanley Banyard, a farm hand from Ramsholt Suffolk, and how he saved the lives of his comrades, lost in No Man’s Land by using the skills he learnt as a boy from a Suffolk gamekeeper.

The film also follows the Pretty family, factory owners from Ipswich, and the forbidden romance between Major Frank Pretty, (4th Batallion, Suffolk Regiment) and Edith Dempster (later Edith Pretty of Sutton Hoo fame), as well as the tragic story of Lieutenant Donald Pretty (4th Batallion, Suffolk Regiment) killed in action on 11th May 1915.

7pm on 28th October at The Town Hall Assembly Rooms.

£10 entry with any profits to the Poppy Appeal. All welcome.

Volunteering Opportunities

The Sudbury Society is entirely volunteer led, and we desperately need new recruits!  Do you have a few hours a month to spare?  if so, we would really love to hear from you.

Membership Secretary

The main duties of the membership secretary is to manage the renewals process every year, and to encourage and welcome new members to the Society.

Events Officer

The role of the Events Officer is to plan and coordinate a range of events, which are held on a monthly basis (evenings usually) throughout the year.

Anticipated time commitment for these key roles is about 5 hours per month each, including attendance at meetings, and for both you will need to be organised and enthusiastic!  You'll be warmly welcomed to the team, and supported in your role by other committee members.

If you are interested in learning more, please do drop us a line to info@sudburysociety.org.uk and we'd be very happy to have a chat.
