Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve - Sycamore Land Trust

I used to dread winter in Bloomington. Many of the outdoor activities that I love are hard to do during the winter and construction is more difficult in the winter months. However, living out on the farm for these past five years, I have come to appreciate things about every season. Watching the plants and the trees on the hillsides change around me actually seems to get more enjoyable by the year.
That said, by the end of February, I always feel pretty dang ready for spring. For a builder, those cold and wet months of winter when it often freezes, thaws, rains, then snows, all on the same day, are some of the most difficult and uncomfortable conditions in which to work. Yet somehow, just when I feel like I can't stand the mud and the grey skies for another day, the temperature turns, the flowers start blooming, and all of a sudden, it's spring.
Coming out of this past Easter weekend and seeing spring coming into full bloom, I have been both reflective of the past year and eagerly anticipating the projects that are in front of us for this year. Earlier this week, I met with the board of directors of Sycamore Land Trust to tour the Beanblossom Bottoms nature preserve where we helped rebuild the boardwalk over the winter. I stopped into the Lotus Education and Arts Foundation headquarters that we renovated over the winter to trouble-shoot a window issue. I even snuck in a few climbing sessions at the Hoosier Heights indoor climbing facility. To top this off, we completed a home that we had been working on over the winter for some good friends of ours and they moved in over the weekend.
Reflecting on all of this, I'm grateful for these awesome projects that we have been privileged to be a part of and grateful for the value that these partnerships, friendships, and spaces have added to my life. As spring gets into full swing and moves quickly towards summer, I'm definitely looking forward to the new experiences, new connections, and new relationships that this year's projects will bring, but mostly I'm just grateful to be a part of this vibrant community.

A Starting Point on Lighting
Lighting sets the mood, creates an inviting environment, allows for dramatic focal points, and truly lights the way. When done well, the type of lighting and placement you choose directly impacts the overall atmosphere and perceived size of your space. If you are ready to accentuate your area then our guide can offer a good first step into understanding lighting.
