The latest news from the WGC.
Yesterday we celebrated Women's Equality Day, a day celebrating the passing of the 19th Amendment, which granted most women the right to vote on August 26, 1920 ... and a day that calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. We still have work to do. One of the WGC's goals is to "raise the awareness of gender disparities in our community" - something we are working toward together through our grantmaking and ongoing efforts.
This is the value of a giving circle.
We have been celebrating Black Philanthropy Month throughout August by elevating the voices and stories of women philanthropists in our community through WGC's "Our Giving, Our Stories" profile series. Have you been reading them daily? I encourage you to take a look!
And, we've been planning this year's Changemaker Challenge with our partners at the Horizon Foundation, United Way of Central Maryland, and Community Foundation of Howard County. Do you have a big idea for social change in Howard County? Pitch it by this Sunday, August 29 for a chance to win up to $35,000 through the Changemaker Challenge! One $10,000 grant will be awarded to an entry for a project created by or serving women and/or girls in Howard County!
As we say goodbye to summer and gear up for the fall, be sure to connect with us on social media and read our blog to learn more about our efforts and how you can get involved in the coming months.
Many thanks to those who have given to the WGC this past month - you are appreciated!
