An Update From The Session

At their June 9 session meeting the elders made the following changes to Central Presbyterian's COVID-19 response policies, effective immediately:

  1. Mask-wearing for fully vaccinated persons of all ages is optional. This policy applies to all events and gatherings, including worship.

  2. The parents of children too young to be eligible for the vaccines will make mask-wearing decisions for their children.

  3. The church will continue to provide communion by providing individual cups and baggies of bread, but will resume using the traditional liturgy.

  4. The ushers will resume carrying the offering plates to the pews.

  5. Sunday school will resume the 12th or 19th of September (depending on whether our partner churches wish to participate in Holypalooza, which would happen at Central on the 12th).

  6. The elders put off a decision on the resumption of Parents' Night Out.

In addition, the session encourages all those associated with Central Presbyterian to get vaccinated if medically possible and voted to offer paid time off to existing and any new employees to complete their vaccinations.

Cheryl's retirement celebration is Sunday!
Sunday, June 27th following our outdoor worship at Deming Park
The Church Life and Christian Nurture commissions invite you to a picnic lunch and program to celebrate Cheryl Moles retirement and her exemplary service to our church during her 20 years as Director of Christian Education.

Please join us even if you didn't RSVP, we will have plenty of food!

Twenty years ago Cheryl Moles started her service as the Christian Educator at Central Presbyterian Church. In three weeks she retires, having provided excellence, creativity and above all, love to children of God of all ages.

As part of our celebration of her ministry, the elders have voted to make this appeal:

Would all reading these words consider making a contribution to a financial gift for Cheryl?

We plan to present this—and other—gifts to Cheryl at the celebration meal following worship on June 27th at the Ute Shelter in Deming Park. Please deliver your gift before 6/25/21. You can clearly mark it “Cheryl's gift” and place it in the offering plates during worship, hand it to Pastor Mike Riggins or Leanne Holder, deliver it to the church office during regular business hours, or mail it to the church.

We need to make the reminder that gifts of this nature are not tax deductible. Sarah Kelsheimer, our Financial Secretary, will not include them in your giving reports.

These gifts are, however heartfelt and richly deserved. Please prayerfully consider what you feel led to contribute. Thank you.

Sunday School Update!
The reinstatement of Sunday School for the 2021-2022 school year has yet to be determined by Session based on recommendations from the Re-Opening Task Force. However, we are going to ask for volunteers to teach all ages so we are prepared for any outcome. If you are interested in teaching this fall please call/text/email Corrine Foree at or 724-699-6046.

We are a Matthew 25 church!
Our congregation has accepted the PC(USA)’s invitation to follow Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 25:31–46 by becoming active disciples and making a difference in our community and the world. As part of our Matthew 25 commitment, we pledge to embrace these areas of focus:

• Dismantling structural racism by fearlessly applying our faith to advocate and break down the systems, practices and thinking that underlie discrimination, bias, prejudice and oppression of people of color

• Eradicating systemic poverty by acting on our beliefs and working to change laws, policies, plans and structures in our society that perpetuate economic exploitation of people who are poor

Working together in our community, we build congregational vitality by deepening and energizing our faith and growing as joyful leaders and disciples as we share the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.

Prayers for this week:
As the sun rises, Lord, Let your light shine on me.
Destroy the darkness about me, Scatter the darkness before me,
Disperse the darkness behind me, Dispel the darkness within me.
Let your light shine on me.

As the sun rises, Lord, Let your light shine on me.
The warmth of your Presence, The brightness of your love,
The radiance of your joy, The shining of your hope.
Let your light shine on me.

As the sun rises, Lord, Let your light shine on me.
Your light to guide, Your light to lead,
Your light to direct, Your light to brighten.
Let your light shine on me.

-- David Adam, in "Power Lines: Celtic Prayers About Work"
Long warm days...
The pace of life slows...
A time for picnics and rest in the shade...
Lord, help me to rest awhile
in the cooling shade of your presence.
Slow down my restless heart and
fill me with gentle compassion for all your people.
