Happy Holidays
Just before we wrap up for the year, I wanted to let you know my news, if you haven’t heard it already. I have come to the difficult but exciting decision that I am stepping back from the Executive Director (ED) role at the Health Consumers’ Council. Our Deputy Director Clare Mullen will be Acting ED from 10 January 2022 and I will be Acting Deputy Director from then until 31/3/2022, working towards a smooth transition. Among other things I will be co-ordinating the recruitment process for our next Executive Director so stay tuned to see this advertised in the New Year.
From 1/4/2022 I will likely be consulting back to the Health Consumers’ Council in the many engagement projects that we do on a fee for service basis, aiming for a three day week. This will allow me much more time for my writing projects. I think those of you who know me understand that advocacy is not really a job for me, it’s a personal mission and I will be a change ally/ irritant for the health and social care system in some form or other for the foreseeable future.
Simon Sinek’s recent book The Infinite Game highlights that entities like Health Consumers’ Council are playing an infinite game – the players will change but the game will go on. He highlights that we need to “build organizations that are strong enough and healthy enough to stay in the game for many generations to come.” My move from the Executive Director role is part of a well-thought out transition as HCC continues to build the movement we know is needed to see the health system we want to see.
Have a safe and wonderful holiday season and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

.
Pip Brennan, Executive Director
