Masonic Education Moment

"I would say there are three steps in Masonry. The first step is the ritual; the second step would be the fellowship to be taken and enjoyed; the third step would be Masonic information for enlightenment or education."
– William K. Bailey

Duties of the Masonic Lodge's Junior Warden

The Junior Warden is the 3rd in line within the Masonic lodge hierarchy and helps the lodge to run smoothly, both at labor and at refreshment.

Assistant Officer: In Freemasonry, the Junior Warden is an elected officer in the Lodge.  His position is similar to a Vice-President.

Junior Warden's Emblem

Jewel of Office: His Jewel of Office is the Plumb... which is a stonemason's instrument used for ascertaining the alignment of a vertical surface. It symbolizes upright behavior among Masons.

Refreshment:  He sits in the South (symbolic of the position of the sun at midday) and is responsible for the Brethren while the Lodge is at ease or refreshment.

It is his to arrange all meals for the lodge, and, typically, the two Stewards act as his assistants in this responsibility. Symbolically, it is also his duty to make certain that the members do not convert their refreshment into intemperance or excess.

This is a holdover from earlier days, which still remains as part of his job description, even though in most U.S. jurisdictions, alcohol is barred from the lodge.

From The Secretaries Desk

What Is Your Word Worth?

By Brother Eric L. Kolb

By Masonic definition, every word from you is a promise, but with the changing times, we find that is not the case. Brothers say they will be there but then have many tales of why they are not. Yes, things come up... I myself have had a string of health issues that have stopped me. But as they say, "Tomorrow is another day" and a time to recommit the lodge and masonry and if you say you are going to be there you put a bit more effort on keeping your word.
I myself am committing to this. Secretary office hours are at Lodge Thursdays from 8am to 10am if you need help just contact me then. With every new Masonic year is our chance to be better men, better brothers and better for the Lodge.

I will now get off the soapbox.

Live Oak #304 Around Town

Kyle United Methodist Church Blessings Box

By Brother Sean Claes

Did you know one in four children in the Kyle area is food insecure?
Did you know there's a local Blessings Box?
Did you know our lodge is supporting it?

At the last stated meeting, Live Oak #304 moved forward on a motion to support the Kyle Blessings Box on the back corner of the Kyle United Methodist Church's property at 408 W. Lockhart Street. The Blessings Box is a place where people in the community can pick up non-perishable food items and toiletries if they are in need. It is operated like the "Little Libraries" you've likely seen where people can pick things up as well as place items inside for others.
When we learned that food for the Blessings Box was community-driven, the Lodge decided to fill the box once a month.

A collection was taken and we will spend $20 a month to stock the Blessings Box each month, plus we will collect canned goods to place in the box at each stated meeting this year.

In the photo above Alex Villalobos, Jeff Spencer, Sean Claes, Will Wilkin, Michael Guajardo and Curtis Taylor pose in front of the Blessings Box.

We also plan to post a challenge to the public to see if we can get more individuals/groups to pledge to stock the box. One small way our brothers can have an impact on local food insecurity,
