News You Can Use!

Messages and updates for the community and partners of Ingham Health Plan

Read on to learn about our new behavioral health benefit, the differences between IHP and Medicaid and a community resource to help keep people connected.

New Behavioral Health Benefits for Members:

Beginning July 1, 2021 Ingham Health Plan will begin offering a limited Behavioral Health Benefit (Mental Health & Substance Use).  If you are working with or serving IHP members who have mental health concerns and would like to receive a mental health screening, please advise them to check in with their primary care doctor.  Their provider can also coordinate a referral and authorization to ongoing treatment.  This benefit is also available for members who wish to receive screening or referral to treatment for substance use.
What's the Difference?
Ingham Health Plan and Medicaid are both community resources that are part of the public health safety net for those who cannot afford the high cost of Marketplace coverage or employee sponsored health care. Aside from that there are some important key differences:
  • IHP is not a state managed or funded health benefits program.
  • IHP accepts individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid due to excess income or those who do not meet the citizenship requirements.
  • IHP is not considered insurance. The Medicaid benefit is a more comprehensive coverage. We require anyone eligible for Medicaid to apply.
  • IHP pays providers more than Medicaid.

Below we have included a link to request enrollment training. We can provide live or recorded training for organizations in the community interested in making enrollment assistance available to those served. Providing onsite enrollment support or simply being aware of the eligibility and enrollment criteria and promoting the plan helps support public health and reduces the uninsured population in the county. Help us keep Ingham County healthy by learning more about IHP!

We want to know about your upcoming programing, let us feature your resources in our member newsletter!

IHP would love to support your community resources by getting the word out to our members. You can click the submit a question button at the bottom of this newsletter to let us know that you would like to be featured. Last month we featured Cristo Rey's Monday vaccine clinics for members. We also can deliver our promotional materials to our partners who need information about our plan for their community.

What is the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program?

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that provides a temporary discount on monthly broadband bills for qualifying low-income households. If your household is eligible, you can receive:

  • Up to a $50/month discount on your broadband service and associated equipment rentals
  • Up to a $75/month discount if your household is on qualifying Tribal lands
  • A one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer (with a co-payment of more than $10 but less than $50)

Only one monthly service discount and one device discount is allowed per household. To receive the connected device discount, consumers need to enroll in the EBB Program with a participating provider that offers connected devices (not all service providers offer device discounts). The service provider will provide the discount to the consumer.

The program will end when the fund runs out of money, or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the COVID-19 health emergency, whichever is sooner.
