March 8th Meeting Recap
Please take a few minutes to watch a recap of our most recent County Commission meeting.
- I requested a more thorough review of what the County can do to help Killearn’s lakes.
- We supported the Office of Economic Vitality’s efforts to expand broadband access in our rural areas.
- While I give the Sheriff the benefit of the doubt, I expressed my concern that we ensure our Council on the Status of Men and Boys is effective and produces positive results.
- We supported a local electric vehicle infrastructure ordinance to expand EV charging station availability.
- We supported the inaugural “Rock the Roost” event in support of the TCC Foundation.

March 22nd Workshops Recaps
Please take a few minutes to watch a recap of our most recent County Commission Workshops.
- I supported creating an ordinance making possession of small amounts of marijuana a civil citation, but the Board did not move forward with it.
- I reenforced that we must accept the reality that Leon County is growing, and the capacity of the Detention Facility will need to scale with it.
- I advocated for ensuring development and growth that comes to Tallahassee looks and feels like it truly belongs here.

Ongoing Projects
Here's the current status for ongoing County and Blueprint projects
|
|

The Northeast Park
At February's Blueprint IA Meeting, funding for the Northeast Park project was finalized and moved forward. The County is diligently working towards closing on the land swap that will move the NE Park from the old location on Proctor Rd to the new location immediately south of Roberts Elementary School. This is expected to be complete this Summer.
We look forward to robust public engagement on what amenities will be planned for the park by the end of this year. Please stay tuned to our social media for updates as we move this project closer to becoming reality.
We've heard from many of you on what you'd like to see at the NE Park, and we love seeing the feedback. Click the button below to send us an email with your NE Park idea.

Bannerman Widening Project
The Bannerman Road widening project is underway and is currently in the finalization of its design phase, with groundbreaking expected in late 2023. This design will be coming to the Blueprint Board for approval, which will then begin the process for engineering, right-of-way acquisition and permitting. The project is split up into 3 segments, each with differing improvements planned:
- Segment 1: North Meridian Road to Preservation Road (Construct a median and turn lanes to support two-lane roadway with multimodal and stormwater improvements.)
- Segment 2: Preservation Road to Tekesta Drive (Widen to four-lanes with multimodal and stormwater improvements.)
- Segment 3: Tekesta Drive to Thomasville Road (Widen to four-lanes with multimodal and stormwater improvements.)
A multimodal path is currently recommended on both sides of the widened road from Bull Headley to Thomasville, and on the southern side of Bannerman from Bull Headley to Meridian Road. After this project's completion, the County plans to extend the sidewalk project down the length of Bull Headley. We will keep you updated on any traffic impacts as this project moves forward.

Northeast Gateway
The Northeast Gateway project is continuing into the design phase following the acceptance of the PD&E of the Blueprint Board. This project includes the expansion of Welaunee Boulevard and will provide much needed relief to Miccosukee and Centerville Roads, a second exit to the Leon County Schools complex which includes Montford Middle School and Roberts Elementary School, as well as a future entrance for the exciting new Northeast Park.
Survey crews and engineers are currently preparing an engineering report with a conceptual detailed recommended design and will present their findings to the Blueprint Board when complete. Public input will continue to be requested during this phase to ensure we get the best product for everyone involved and impacted. Stay tuned to our social media for when those opportunities will be. We also encourage you to reach out to our office any time with questions or concerns about the project.

Market District Placemaking
The Market District Park aspect of the Market District Placemaking project is currently in the final design and permitting phase after going through rigorous public input. Above is the concept plan for the park passed in a previous Blueprint meeting which includes pickleball courts, a large open greenspace, walking trails, waterplay area, and shaded plaza area. Following the finalization of the design, contract bidding will begin prior to the groundbreaking and construction of the park. Completion of this project is expected by mid to late 2023.
Stay tuned to our social media for updates as we move this project closer to becoming reality.
