Sunrise: Pass the Bill 

Washington, DC – In response to the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 passing the Senate today, Sunrise Movement Executive Director Varshini Prakash, released the following statement:

“This bill is a far cry from what is needed to tackle the climate crisis. It’s a far cry from what President Biden committed to on the campaign trail. But the truth is, Democrats have an extremely narrow window of opportunity to take action on climate change, and if they don’t pass this now, it might be years before they get another chance.

“We have no time to waste. The House must get this bill to Biden’s desk for a signature as soon as possible.

“We need so much more to stave off the worst of this crisis and fix our broken economy. This bill must get over the finish line, and as soon as it does, our movement will continue the critical work of fighting fossil fuel projects that will destroy communities, electing progressive champions to Congress, and building a movement of young people that will make the Green New Deal a reality.”

Today, Varshini Prakash joined dozens of youth leaders across the progressive movement in a letter to Congress, calling on Members to pass the IRA as soon as possible.
