Harmony School of Science Hosts Viva Technology!

October 1-2, 2015 | Houston, TX

Harmony School of Science – High Sugar Land campus brought another exciting STEM activity to its students earlier this month. Viva Technology is a national K-12 education program designed to engage students, teachers and parents with STEM challenges that stimulate their interest in the application of technology and provide STEM-focused career pathways. The program creates awareness, supplies STEM resources and provides access to STEM career pathways.

Harmony partnered with Shell and Great Minds in STEM to host Viva Technology at HSS-High Sugar Land. The two-day event included teacher and parent orientation sessions to inform these critical stakeholder groups about various possibilities in STEM fields and how teachers and parents can equip students to pursue a career in STEM workforce. The next day around 120 junior high students and freshmen were divided into teams lead by Shell engineers and volunteer college students majoring in STEM at University of Houston and Rice University. Our student teams worked on a number of STEM challenges to solve critical problems in engineering and technology throughout the day. Harmony would like to thank once again to Shell Oil for sponsoring this wonderful event and to Great Minds in STEM for facilitating and delivering the engaging sessions to our teachers, parents, and students.

Harmony Grows Rocket Scientists

As part of Harmony’s STEM Students on the Stage (STEM SOS) teaching and learning model, students from two Harmony campuses in Houston formed teams to design, test, and launch rockets outside of their regular school day. We call these advanced student driven projects PBL Level III. Our unique model of project based learning ensures that every student can experience deeper learning at Harmony and master core content. Please see below videos and e-portfolios of our student teams.
