Roadrunner Speaks Vol 7.1

Happy New Year!!

Welcome to the first 2020 Roadrunner Speaks! Your news source for New Mexico's Burner community. We hope the 'off' season was good to you, but you are all revved up to get this year's burn season up and firing! Lots of news below about how you can get involved in this year's Burning Man Regional Event:

SunBurn 2020
Eaves Movie Ranch
July 2nd - July 5th!

One of the first things we need is a theme. While a small Theme Team will ultimately make the final decision, you, our Community, are invited to submit your suggestions. Past years' themes have been based around the elements, or space, or perspective. So what would you like to see for this year? What is calling to you? Be as wild and creative as you want! A brief but thought-out explanation on why you chose this theme will be much appreciated in order to help the Theme Team with their decision.

Submit your great idea at this link.

SunBurn Town Hall &
First Call Out for SunBurn Event Council

Announcing the winter town hall for SunBurn. This is when we start picking up  momentum with planning the event, filling department lead roles, sparking volunteer interest, and announcing more details, along with answering your questions about getting involved too.

Saturday February 1st, LivLab Studios
420 Haines Ave. NW, ABQ

Meet-and-greet 1:30pm
Meeting starts 2:00pm

As a 100% volunteer-driven event, SunBurn simply cannot happen without your participation. If you had a great time at SunBurn last year and want to lend a hand this year, or if you had a terrible time and want to make it better, or any number of other reasons to get involved, we need you! There are a variety of roles to fill and ways to contribute, to meet any level of interest and availability. The Event Council is compromised of key department leads and is responsible for planning, producing, and executing the SunBurn event. This is not yet a call-out for volunteers, which will come later, but is for people interested in leading a department during planning. You will not be on your own as we want to have at least two co-leads for each
department.

You can register your interest here for now, and we will be available to talk more at the Town Hall.

Community Project: Jefferson Middle School
Sat 25th January

We are rebuilding the Jefferson Middle School gymnasium's stage. This had been planned for December and had to be shelved until now. Come participate, contribute, experience the magic and feel good about helping our neighbors.

Meeting up at Jefferson Middle school at 10am.
712 Girard Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106

Bring work tools, gloves & safety gear. Some refreshments will likely be present but be self reliant with some to share.

We are anticipating this project being wrapped by 2pm, everyone is welcome to reconvene at Liv Lab after 7pm for Church Night and social hour.

We have the next few months of Church Night scheduled.  We intend to try for the Saturday of the 3rd week of each month. Keep an eye out for announcements on our Pre-Burn Art Build days as well.  This has been a tremendous success over the past few years & many of SunBurn’s signs and accoutrements are produced at the art builds.

Next Church Nights: Jan 25th, Feb 22nd at LivLab

Church Night Feb 22 - on that topic....

Do you have a community project that is:  feasible, low cost, mostly only requires work hours, is an obvious need?  With all of our makers and do-ers, things like picnic tables for an elementary school (November’s Church Night), a stage for a middle school (January’s Church Night) are fun, community building and gives all of us a chance to make a difference.

Do you have a talent or skill you would like to teach at Church Night?  Are you a performer?  An artist? A maker? Maybe you have a vivid idea for ambiance or thematic settings?  Church Night is accessible to anyone who wants to perform, organize, teach, produce. Contact Setia or Blaze with your ideas.
