Blizzard Bags Being Distributed Now

Now in our fourth year, Meals on Wheels Erie continues to collaborate with the Second Harvest Food Bank to supply each of our clients with 8 lbs. of shelf stable emergency food. Starting in 2013, we've distributed over 9,500 lbs. of food to help clients in case of personal emergency or blizzards we are certainly not immune to here in Erie.
Most of this food is donated and Second Harvest generously packages and boxes up our bags. We need help each year getting these 100+ boxes from SHFB to GECAC and St. Martin Center for eventual distribution. This year we want to thank the following volunteers for giving their time, vehicles, and strength to accomplish this task: Tom Gatehouse, Jim and Karen Hein, Chuck Knight, Pete Ogden, Dave Ostrowski, Charles Roehrl and Ron Seyboldt.
Welcome to our new volunteers:

Meal Delivery Volunteers:
Chris Romecki (caregiver) and Alex Canales (client) make up a new Caregiver Team from Lakeshore Community Services. They will be delivering Route 6B out of GECAC.
Grocery Shopping & Delivery Volunteers:
Bill and Joanne Keyes: They met us at the Shrine Club Senior Expo and will be going out to the Summit and Yorktown stores among others.

Home Delivered Meals Reduce Loneliness, study finds.

A Brown University study is one of few to rigorously examine the long-presumed psychological benefits of home-delivered meal service.
