Quick COVID Update

From the desk of Susan Palé, our VP of Compensation:

We recently attended a theater performance here in Phoenix. Unlike a lot of other states, Arizona did not impose lockdowns or other mask mandates. The couple in front of us attempting to buy tickets were more than a little upset to discover that this particular venue requires masks AND proof of vaccination at all performances. Similar thing at a recent wedding reception venue – proof of vaccination required.

The point here is that in addition to requirements imposed at the state and municipal levels, requirements may vary by individual location.

In April, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that it would no longer enforce the federal mask mandate for air travel.  All US-based airlines have now removed the requirement that passengers wear a mask, except on international flights where the destination requires it.

In June, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that the order requiring a person to show a negative COVID-19 test or documentation of recovery before boarding a flight to the United States would be rescinded.  The CDC also recommended that all children 6 months through 5 years of age should receive a COVID-19 vaccine.  This recommendation expanded eligibility for vaccination by approximately 20 million additional children.

In our compliance practice, we are routinely fielding questions about how to handle the latest strains of COVID-19. For up-to-date information, we recommend checking out OSHA's guidance.

Additional Tips for Employers:

  • Identify the best resources to help you stay informed of changes/new requirements at the federal, state, and local levels, and use those resources regularly to stay informed.  This is critical for employers operating in multiple locations.

  • Ensure your policies are consistent with federal and, importantly, state and local laws.  Contact Affinity HR Group if you are uncertain.

  • Develop the procedures and communications necessary to support those policies.
