September Update

Happy September! Welcome to our monthly newsletter, where we provide updates on the progress and work of the team.

As the new school year starts up, the team is in the midst of many transitions: incorporating new members, moving to the new Ford Motor Company Robotics Building workspace, and starting a new submarine design. In addition, we are continuing work to improve the stability of our submarine Huron.

Coming off a very good result from out 2021 RoboSub competition, the team is excited to be back in person, working with everyone all together, and is ready for an exciting semester of RoboSub.

RoboSub 2021 Competition Results

4th - Website

4th - Sensor Optimization

10th - Hull Design

The mechanical team is working on improving the stability of Huron, in addition to starting to design a new submarine. The team is also working on building competition task items, such as a buoy and a torpedo wall, that the software team can use for testing.

This month:

  • Worked on correcting the stability issue of Huron by testing in the MHL

  • Onboarded new members with CAD training and machine shop training

Upcoming Goals:

  • Finish manufacturing the buoy and torpedo wall to give to the software team for testing

  • Establish a new design for the submarine we will build in the upcoming year

  • Continue with development of mechanisms for tasks

The software team is working on C and embedded programming for the hydrophones, researching new ways to improve the machine learning algorithms, and brainstorming approaches for various tasks.

This month:

  • Onboarding new members and creating teams to work on new tasks

  • Researching ways to improve the machine learning algorithms

  • Brainstorming for torpedo and buoy approaches and algorithms

Upcoming Goals:

  • Testing the submarine in the water at the MHL to optimize the gate task

  • Work on hydrophones and designing custom PCBs

  • Develop custom STM microcontrollers

This month:

  • Working on creating promotional material for the upcoming year

  • Working on designing merch for team members

This month:

  • Working on reaching out to current sponsors and finding new sponsors
