Drive Oregon Awards $85K, Opens New Round
Drive Oregon has awarded grants to three electric vehicle firms -- KersTech Vehicle Systems, Brammo, and Shorepower Technologies -- to support the research, development, and marketing of their unique products. As noted by Executive Director Jeff Allen, “Drive Oregon has previously paid out just under $400,000 in matching grants, which have already leveraged nearly $4 million in additional investment. We look forward to continuing this highly successful program.”
Is your company pursuing research or investment funding? Drive Oregon is accepting matching grant applications for its next round of awards, expected in mid-April. Proposals are due February 28th and application materials, plus more information, can be found on our website.

CES & Detroit Auto Show: Cutting Edge Cars
Major automakers revealed their latest technologies at two major shows taking place this month. Drive Oregon member Via Motors unveiled their ground-breaking XTRUX plug-in electric pick-up at the Detroit Auto Show. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Ford introduced their C-Max Solar Energi concept, which uses SunPower solar cells to charge the plug-in vehicle's batteries. The first Formula E electric race car also made its debut in Las Vegas. Capable of speeds up to 150 mph, the vehicle will be one of dozens on the new Formula E racing circuit kicking off next September. Portland will play host to its own auto show next month: The Portland International Auto Show runs February 6-9 at the Oregon Convention Center.

New Events: EV Tourism, IP, E-Bikes, & More!
If you join us next week for Drive Oregon's first monthly event of 2014, you may just leave with ideas of what to do over your summer vacation. EV Tourism: Creating Value for Oregon on January 21st will feature Oregon's Chief Electrification Officer, Ashley Horvat, and JudiAnn Woo of Travel Oregon, sharing the history and impact of the Oregon Electric Byways initiative. Our February event, on the 12th, will dive into the world of intellectual property - why it matters, how it relates to securing funding, and smart management strategies. Our April event will explore the expanding e-bike revolution on April 16th. Our March event is coming together and will focus on exploring opportunities for new business partnerships in Tualatin. Drive Oregon Staff Hit the Road
Drive Oregon’s team will be out in force in the coming weeks. Zach Henkin will speak at the Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon Earth Care Summit on January 27th and at the Green Transportation Conference on February 19th. Emmaline Pohnl will participate on a panel at AESP's next monthly event, also on February 19th. Our Executive Director, Jeff Allen, will speak January 28th at the Gorge Technology Alliance in Hood River. On January 31st, Jeff will share his perspective on the EV industry with the Medford Rogue Rotary Club and live on the Jefferson Exchange radio show on Jefferson Public Radio from 8-9 AM with representatives from member company Alltrax. Jeff was also recently honored by Sustainable Business Oregon as one of its “15 people to watch” in 2014…so we encourage you to keep an eye on him!
