How Can New Mobility Technologies Support Portlanders?

Forth is committed to working to improve transportation equity. All communities should have the same ease of access to clean and smart transportation options, but unfortunately, this is not always the case. Together with OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon and Portland State University, Forth facilitated a community-based needs assessment to determine how smart transportation technologies can support communities with fewer transportation options in the City of Portland. Focus groups were convened to identify the barriers to smart mobility technology use and what solutions can be implemented to increase transportation options.

UPDATE: Oregon's EV Rebate Rules Have Been Approved!

On May 11, The Oregon Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) approved the Zero Emission and Electric Vehicle Rebate Program rules with three voting yes and one abstention. Forth appreciates the EQC review and approval of the rebate program rules, which includes the Charge Ahead Program rebate.  The Charge Ahead Program rebate will provide an additional $2,500 to lower-income drivers who purchase a new or used electric vehicle, on top of the general rebate of up to $2,500. The Department of Environmental Quality is accepting applications, but a lawsuit with AAA Idaho/Oregon may delay funding until later in 2018. We are hoping for a ruling in the next several weeks.

The Go Forth Electric Showcase Turns One!

On May 1, 2017 we opened the Go Forth Electric Showcase in downtown Portland. The first of its kind in the United States, the Showcase serves as part science museum and part car dealership - a resource for everyone who wants to know more about electric vehicles, from electric bikes to buses. In the last year, we've hosted school groups, brown bag lunches, VIP parties and to date have had over 2,800 visitors and have given over 560 test drives!  Thank you to all of our partners and supporters who have made the Showcase possible.

Forth to Support Columbus, OH

The Paul G. Allen Philanthropies have asked Forth to help strengthen the work they are funding in Columbus, Ohio through the Smart City Challenge. Our contribution will focus on consumer engagement work in Columbus, which is a critical piece of any strategy to drive increased electric vehicle adoption. Even in California, where electric cars have been widely available for several years, over half of drivers are still unable to name a single model – and analysis by UC Davis suggests that this situation is not improving. Forth will convene a small team of national experts to help Columbus ensure that this work is solidly grounded in best practices; is designed to quickly adapt to incorporate new information and insights; and are designed to effectively produce and share key lessons learned. Forth will produce a final report for Columbus and Vulcan in September, a summary of which is expected to be publicly available.
