These days I often experience a surreal feeling when I’m out and about in the community monitoring poll sites, attending public meetings or simply walking my dog at the Sundial Bridge. I haven't gotten used to it yet but I really love how many of you have come up to ask, “You’re Scout, right?!”
Becoming “Scout,” the public face of our local news organization, has been a life-changing journey.
As all entrepreneurs know, success starts with sheer effort and energy and passion and persistence. And it continues only when you surround yourself with a community that shares your vision and will support the work.
That’s where you come in.
Shasta Scout is a particularly good place to donate this Giving Tuesday. We're partnered with NewsMatch, a project of the Miami Foundation which matches reader donations during November and December. From now until December 31, NewsMatch will double your one-time gift, up to $1,000, or match your new monthly donation 12 times, instantly turning your new $10 monthly donation into $120 for Shasta Scout. Even better, due to additional donor support, today you have the opportunity to triple your donation.
That generous support, means $19,000 from our local audience would mean $38,000 in funding. Enough to move towards bringing on an additional reporter to tell more of our county's critical news stories next year. It will also mean the world to me, the one-woman news show currently wearing almost all the hats at Shasta Scout.
This #GivingNewsDay, invest in news that’s for people, not for power or profit. Invest in your community. Invest in Shasta Scout.
Forging ahead,
