Winter 2021
A Message from the Executive Director:
John Denver once sang about coming home to a place he’d never been before. At The Arc of McLennan County, we understand those words.

This pandemic has been hard on us all. For The Arc of McLennan County, founded in 1954 by Mrs. Walter Lacy, Sr., it has been an especially challenging year. After enjoying a wonderful eight years of being housed at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, in the middle of the pandemic the church that took over Austin Avenue notified The Arc that it was terminating the lease agreement, giving The Arc just 90 days to vacate the premises.

As you can imagine, we had to get busy in a hurry! Trying to find a new home on such short notice in the midst of a pandemic that narrowed our choices was tough. But after exploring the lease and purchase options available to us, The Arc’s Board of Directors voted to purchase the property at 4901 Lakewood Drive as the best way forward in securing The Arc’s future.

Although getting here was an unexpected ordeal, we are super excited about our new home! We are excited about its possibilities for the future in continuing to serve the people and families in our community who are impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities. And in order to do that, The Arc needs your help!

The Arc is launching a building campaign to help pay off the $300,000.00 bank loan on the building. Our goal is to pay off the loan in one year and be debt-free, enabling us to once more funnel all of our resources into the programs and services that benefit the people we serve— services like after school care and summer camp for children, and the Opportunity Center that promotes healthy living for adults on the autism spectrum, and money management, social groups, and counseling services. To do that, we are asking for your partnership!

Please consider making a generous donation to The Arc’s building campaign to help us pay off the bank note as we press forward through this challenging pandemic. Your generosity will help provide a state of the art facility and a welcoming place for people in our community with intellectual and developmental disabilities to continue to gather, grow, and develop. With your help, The Arc of McLennan County and the people we serve will finally be home.

 Thank you!
-Tom Pearson
