Fall 2018

A Message from the Executive Director:

     We had a very successful summer camp for 42 campers under the direction of Brandy Abel-Clark, The Arc's new Program Director.  I want to thank Brandy and her staff for a job well done in providing a fun-filled summer experience for the kids.  Also, special thanks to Doreen Ravenscroft and her staff from Waco Cultural Arts for providing art opportunities for the campers and for the outstanding art exhibit at the conclusion of camp.
    I also want to thank the many donors who helped underwrite the costs of camp to keep the the cost of camp affordable for families.  In particular, I want to thank Brent and Cindy Mattson for their continued generosity in making this camp possible.  The Kiwanis Club of Waco designated the proceeds from their annual golf tournament to help fund camp;
thank you Kiwanians.  The Heart of Texas Electric Cooperative also provided funding through their Operation Roundup Program.
    Several groups and individuals provided camp scholarships to help families who needed a hand up in order to send their child to camp.  The Heart of Texas Autism Network, the Area Agency on Aging, Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, Clay and Jan Hood, and Kandy Money all helped with scholarships.
     As you can see, it takes a lot of partners working together to create this wonderful camp for some great kids!
Thank you!

-Tom Pearson

After School Program

The Arc's After School Program started on August 21st and will be open until the end of May 2019.  The hours of operation are 3:15 - 5:30 p.m. each school day.  We now serve Waco and Midway ISD.  Cost is $50.00 per week.  Please call our office at 756-7491 if you know of someone who is interested in sending their child to our After School Program.
Self  Advocates

   A group from the Heart of Texas Self Advocates, along with 3 chaperones, attended the annual Texas Advocates Conference held in Grapevine this year.  They enjoyed fun night, Awards night and the trip on The Arc's bus driven by our director, Tom Pearson.
    Our Self Advocate group meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church.  Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, aged 21 and up, are welcome.
   Special Thanks to:  Natasha James, RN, with PALS Home Health LLC for coming in August and speaking to our group about home health services.  Also James Embry and Sheila Cervenka with the City of Waco Solid Waste Services spoke to our group in September about recycling.
