FALL 2015                    
A Message from the Executive Director:

As Thanksgiving approaches and 2015 winds down, we have much to be thankful for here at The Arc. In particular, I’ve been reflecting on all the wonderful volunteers who have made possible all that we have been able to accomplish this year. I want to highlight a few:

Doreen Ravenscroft, director of Waco Cultural Arts, who volunteers each summer to provide a wonderful art program for our summer camp.

Kandy Money, who volunteers each month as director of our Teen and Young Adult group, taking them into the community for fun-filled activities.

Mike Perry, owner of Mid-Tex Fence, who single-handedly sells about a fourth of the tables for Boots on the Brazos, our annual fundraising event.

Cathy Pearson and Elaine Karban, who round up all of the fantastic raffle items for Boots on the Brazos.

Board of Directors,  President, Tommy Bowman, Greg Salome, Charles Johnson, Brandy Abel-Clark, Mike Lednicky, Kristal Lowry, Wayne Peel, Bill Gaventa, Carlie Gause, Jeff Peel, Stephen Sumrall, and Kelley Perkins, who volunteer each month to oversee The Arc’s finances and policies and are instrumental in making Boots on the Brazos such a success.

Aileen Lumpkin, Olga Crow, and Willie Hurst, who volunteer each month to facilitate a sewing class for our adults.

Anita Karney and David Gonzales, who volunteer with our Opportunity Center students/adults, taking them to deliver Meals on Wheels. Anita also takes the students to Caritas once a week.
 
To these special volunteers and to all of you, who in your own way contribute to the overall well-being of The Arc and the people we serve, thank you for giving of yourselves so unselfishly.

Summer Camp

The Arc summer camp ended August 7. We had a wonderful summer with all of our campers, and we are all looking forward to next summer. In addition to our usual field trips, our campers had the opportunity to visit Hawaiian Falls this year. Every summer Hawaiian Falls hosts "Champion Day" where children and adults with special needs can enjoy the water park before it opens to the public. Our campers and staff had a blast and hope to visit again next year.

Our camp ended with the annual Art Exhibit. All summer Doreen Ravencroft and volunteers from the Waco Cultural Arts work with our campers at Art at The Arc. The campers are able to express themselves through painting, sculpting and even music.

Thank you to all our staff and campers for a successful 2015 Summer Camp! We hope to see everyone again next summer!
After School Program
 
Our After School Program is up and running for the 2015/2016 school year. This year we have five students from Waco ISD and Midway ISD. The After School Program offers care for school-aged children with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are unable to be cared for in traditional daycare settings due to the level of care they require. This state-licensed program enables working parents to pursue full-time employment. The program serves the Waco and Midway school districts from 3pm to 5:30pm each school day.

Mark your calendars for December 8th for The Arc's Annual Meeting/Holiday Party.  This year's meeting will be at 6:30pm-7:45pm in the Fellowship Hall at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church. Please join us for the installation of new officers and directors, and some special awards.
