Summer 2016
A Message from the Executive Director:

Summer camp is the most happening eight weeks of the year at The Arc! The kids have been having a great summer thanks to the generosity of Brent and Cindy Mattson, who once again have graciously underwritten a significant chunk of the cost of putting on the camp. Their sustained support makes it possible for The Arc to offer this fun-filled summer experience to the kids in our community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Thank you, Brent and Cindy!

I also want to thank three other donors who make this camp possible. Once again, the Kiwanis Club of Waco named The Arc the beneficiary of their annual golf tournament. Thank you, Kiwanians, for your ongoing support for the children in our community.

And once again, Austin Avenue United Methodist Church held their annual cake auction that raises money for camp scholarships. Without their generous support, many families would not be able to afford the camp experience for their child. Thank you, Austin Avenue!

And last but not least, once more Operation Roundup, a program of the Heart of Texas Electric Cooperative, has made a generous donation to support camp activities.

Other collaborative partners that make camp such a rewarding experience for the kids are the United Way of Waco/McLennan County, Waco Cultural Arts, Heart of Texas Region MHMR, DARS Division for the Blind, Cen-Tex A.R.C.,  Daybreak, and ResCare. United Way provides significant funding to sustain the camp year in and year out. Waco Cultural Arts provides art classes three days a week for the campers and will host an art exhibit August 2nd to showcase the campers’ art. MHMR provides behavioral support and funding for many of our campers, as do the other providers listed above. My thanks to these community partners!

As you can see, it takes the combined generosity of many people and organizations to create the kind of quality camp The Arc is able to offer. It truly
does take a village to help support these kids. Thank you, Waco, for being such a generous community.
