Call for Proposals: Closed-Cycle Production in Colombia 

Colombian companies in three major sectors of the national economy have been invited to submit proposals for projects that have the potential to use cleaner, more efficient energy in industrial production. Promoting Sustainability in Chile and Belize

Two Senior ECPA Fellows have been awarded innovation grants that will support sustainable energy in Chile’s electricity sector and strengthen capacity for sustainable agriculture and forest management in Belize. The grant recipients, Dr. Dan Kammen and Dr. Janaki Alavalapati, will begin implementing their projects this year, in partnership with local institutions in the two countries. Read more

Sustainable Communities Proposals Being Evaluated

The OAS Department of Sustainable Development is in the process of reviewing the 85 proposals it received under the ECPA initiative called Sustainable Communities in Central America and the Caribbean. The OAS will announce the eight winners in the second week of September. Read more

ECPA Supports Sustainable Energy in the Caribbean

Representatives from 11 Caribbean countries and a number of major development partners participated in a workshop in Saint Lucia, to discuss how to improve the region’s energy outlook in general and increase the use of renewable energy in particular. The workshop—“Sustainable Energy Project Development: Experience, Strategies and Implementation”—took place on August 19 in Rodney Bay. Read more

Workshop in Colombia on Energy-Efficient Use of Fossil Fuels

Energy efficiency will be the focus of a regional technical workshop to be held September 25 in Bogotá, Colombia. The event—on “Energy-Efficient Trends for Fossil Fuel Use”—is sponsored by Colombia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, through its Energy and Mining Planning Unit, and the OAS Department of Sustainable Development. Read more

South America Gears Up to Take the Measure of Climate Change

Science has a vital role to play in public policy when it comes to climate change. For countries to be able to implement effective mitigation steps and evaluate the impact of their efforts, they must have access to accurate, internationally recognized measurements and standards. Read more
