Writing for the Screen and Stage Minor

We are living in a world in which dramatic content has an increasing effect on our lives.
 The minor in Writing for the Screen and Stage is a two-year interdisciplinary program, housed in the Department of Communication, that offers underclassmen, from all corners of the university, the unique opportunity to focus specifically on the craft of dramatic writing, and is designed for those considering writing careers in theatre, film and television.Students who are accepted into the minor are also eligible to participate in the program’s Long Story Shorts play festival, and apply for the Department of Communication Hollywood Internship Program

The MINOR is open to freshman and sophomore applicants.  Those interested in the program must have a 2.4 GPA or better, and have taken one of: English 130(Introduction to Fiction Writing), English 132H (Freshman Honors in Fiction Writing), Communication 330 (Introduction to Writing for Film and Television) orDrama 231 (Playwriting I).   • McKinney Information Session:
    • UNC Ad Club is hosting a info session with McKinney agency on Wednesday, February 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the Halls of Fame. There will be three professionals from McKinney, including two UNC Alumni, and this info session is open to all MJ students. Here is more information:

    • Ogilvy is an award-winning integrated creative network that makes brands matter, specializing in creating experiences, design, and communications. The Washington D.C. office houses the majority of Ogilvy's government agency clients as well as its social change clients. Ogilvy's panel will consist of members from the DC chapter of the Young Professionals Network, including Matthew Merritt, Fontaine Bland, Mary Campbell Rouse, and Tasha Prados. Carolina Case Challenge 
You are invited to apply for UNC Kenan-Flagler's Inaugural Carolina Case Challenge, an external undergraduate case competition of 12 teams from NC State, UNC, and Duke, sponsored by EY. The event takes place on March 1, 2019.

The day-long event will include preliminary and final presentation rounds, culminating in a celebratory dinner and awards ceremony. Each team should compromise of 4 undergraduate students, a maximum of 2 seniors allowed on any team.

To apply, the group should designate a single member to submit an application on the team's behalf (link below). Teams will be evaluated on past case experience, demonstrated interest in the event, and a team mission statement.

Careers in Community Organizing for Social Justice - The DART Center
The Direct Action & Research Training (DART) Center will hold an online information session on Wednesday, February 6 at 7 pm eastern to discuss careers in community organizing with UNC students and alumni interested in uniting congregations and working for social, economic and racial justice. RSVP at

DevU Student Employees (Web Design & Advertising) - Campus Y / Chapel Hill, NC

The project, called DevU, works with non-profits in Chapel Hill to identify internal areas needing development and connects our student employees with these projects — we pay them to complete the work and manage their progress. At present, we have two ongoing community partnerships with skill-specific needs.

We are searching for one student with skills/interest in web-design and another student with skills/interest in advertising management. Reporting Interns - GrepBeat
GrepBeat, a new-ish media property covering the tech community in Raleigh-Durham, is offering a reporting and writing summer internship for 2019. GrepBeat’s purpose is to tell the stories of this area’s tech startups and their entrepreneurs in an engaging and colorful way. Think of it as TechCrunch for the Triangle, with a splash of BuzzFeed for seasoning. GrepBeat launched on Aug. 7, 2018.

The internship is full-time and pays $480/week ($12/hour for a 40-hour week). Video Production Intern - Simply So Healthy / Charleston, SC Area
Fast-growing food and nutrition web site is seeking a paid summer intern to assist with producing original content for a food blog in the low-carb, ketogenic diet niche. Duties may include, but are not limited to, assisting with video production, marketing, copywriting, social media interaction, and search engine optimization.

"The Charted Life TV" is broadcast on Roku, Apple TV, Fire Stick TV and on the web as well, and hosts a weekly program called  “conversations at the helm". The program also does video editing, broadcast media management, ad sales and videography. The Charted Life is looking for an intern that might like to get an introduction into what it is like to produce a video television show and manage a channel for internet publication. Research Assistant - American Public Media Research Lab
American Public Media is the largest station-based public radio organization in the U.S., combining multi-regional station operations, national content creation and distribution in one organization. Production Associate - Sister District / Remote
Sister District works to ensure that all Americans have equal representation and our government works for all people, not just the minority in power.
