we turned toward ever brighter days.

Dear <<First Name>>,

It’s the dawn of a new era. “Winter is the real spring, the time when the inner things happen,” writer Edna O’Brien once said.

For Green Cambridge, that means the next few months we’ll be planning for an amazing 2021 in each of our four program areas of urban wilds, urban farms, urban forestry, and wildlife arts. Could you donate today to help us build a more sustainable Cambridge for everyone?

It’s been a hard year. We've lost lives, livelihoods, and our social fabric and emotional resilience have been tested. Our shared vulnerabilities and inequities came out of the shadows and into the brightest of light for all to see. Now, racial and social justice is at the top of the public agenda. Now, food security isn’t just a buzzword. Now, economic inequity doesn’t need another study to be known. Now, Buy Local has an even deeper purpose. Now, we see that a robust public realm like parks and streets that prioritize people can make more equitable places. Now, we can all see the system.

Through continued support from you, Green Cambridge has been able to keep going throughout 2020. Thank you so much!

We distributed wildlife arts kits for kids in the Spring at food pantry sites and awarded school-aged kids prizes for their local habitat art 🐞; we brought people safely to our urban farming sites 🌱; we built a preschool garden at Nurtury; we had more CRLS students than ever before during our (mostly virtual) Mayor’s Summer Youth program 👨🏽‍💻; we partnered with City Sprouts to bring their middle-school program to our Hurley Street Neighborhood Farm through the Fall 🌻; and we engaged children with their local environment with BioBlitz activities during the holidays 🦃. Your gift to Green Cambridge ensures we can do all of this and more next year!

In urban farming, we’ll be operating at least two sites open to all, one at our Hurley Street Neighborhood Farm and the second at a community garden in Riverside.

In urban forestry, we’ll roll out a new city-wide urban forest program that employs and trains Cambridge youth for urban forestry careers while planting trees in backyards and regenerating our canopy.

In urban wilds, we’ll create group programming, rebuild trail networks, and explore restoration work in the Alewife Reservation.

And our Wildlife Arts program will be at schools and festivals across the city all year (virtually and hopefully in-person🤞), including our signature Fly, Buzz, and Hop! festival in July.

This will all happen with your support. Give just $60 now or $5/month and help us educate and engage residents toward everyday resiliency and create a more sustainable city and protect the environment for the health and safety of all.
