Welcome to the November edition of our Tack Talk Newsletter.

What a ride!  We had a terrific fall trail riding season and hope you did too.  Our Missouri Ozark’s “tour” took us to four outstanding Horse Camps –4-J Big Piney, Big Creek Trail Rides, Brushy Creek Lodge and Flying R Ranch.  It was nice to meet new friends and see dear friends.  Between the riding, visiting and all the shopping ya’ll did - it was a busy, wonderful season. We wish it didn't have to end and our Midwest winter set in.

This Thanksgiving we have many blessings to count.  Your friendship, your patronage and the American jobs your purchases have supported are among them.   Thank you.

We truly hope each of you has a SpecTACKular Thanksgiving!

Sherry

VET CORNER

Brr... It's Cold out There!

Feel that recent chill in the air? The fall colors have shown their beauty and winter is just around the corner. So, I thought it might be good to touch on some winter weather tips when it comes to caring for your equine friends.

Always provide them with a fresh, non-frozen water source. Horses will opt for a heated vs. non-heated water source during the winter months and ensuring adequate hydration is important regardless of the time of year.

Cold fronts moving through tend to lead to atmospheric barometric pressure changes, and although I am unaware of any published studies proving its validity, I can assure you that colic episodes are much more common during such dramatic weather changes. If you know a cold front is headed this way, give your horse an oral dose of electrolytes to encourage adequate hydration status by increasing their thirst response. If you notice any signs of colic such as pawing, rolling, flank watching, or inappetance, please contact your veterinarian immediately as colic is considered an emergency.

And last but not least, we finally had a good hard freeze so please deworm your horse with a product to rid them of small strongyles and tapeworms (ie: Equimax, Zimectrin Gold, or Quest Plus).

Stay warm out there!

In Memory of Boogie

Boogie in SpecTACKular Horse Tack
We were sad to learn that our friend Sharon lost her “Boogie”, a handsome National Show Horse.  Boogie was one of our most charismatic models. His charm leaped through the camera lens. We met Boogie on a usually crisp morning in Los Angeles, CA, on New Years Day 2012 when his owner and our friend Sharron Pichierre-Grannis brought him for our photo-shoot at Hidden Valley with Peter Phun Photography.  He was amazing. Ears Up and photogenic. Thank you Boogie for gracing our company. To read more about Boogie and Sharon or to read her blog, check out womenwineandwhinnies.com
Why Stainless Steel Hardware?
What makes SpecTACKular products so SpecTACKular? Before we started producing and selling our tack, a lot of R&D went into creating horse tack that was not only comfortable, but functional and durable too. Durability is a primary concern here at SpecTACKular, because our customer's satisfaction is our number one priority. And since our Lifetime Warranty includes the hardware - it simply must be the highest quality available.

One way we made our products extra durable is through the use of stainless steel in our hardware. Stainless steel is by far the best metal to use on our horse tack, as you can see on the chart below.

Did you know - We also sell Stainless Steel Hardware and Conchos. The same high-quality as we use to manufacture our own tack. Just in case you are rehabbing your non-SpecTACKular tack.
Fact of the Day: Want to know if a hardware is stainless steel? If it sticks to a magnet, it is not stainless steel.

Horse Trail and Camping Ideas

World's Greatest Camping Chair
World's Greatest Camping Chairs:
FINALLY – padded, comfy camping chairs!  We found these at Camping World and “tested” them out all fall.  Love them and much to our surprise so did everyone in the horse camp.  We actually had folks stopping to try them out.
It's the perfect size for you and your dog to snuggle into on a crisp night.  It has flame retardant fabric so they are as campfire-safe as it gets.  We also bought the matching padded ottoman, which can double as a seat.  Both come with a well-made, clear protective carrying case.
Only two drawbacks – 1) Even when folded for storage they are a little larger then a traditional bagged camping chair and 2) No drink holder / side table.

About $55.00 for the Club Chair, plus $16.00 for the Ottoman.  Worth every penny.

Want to learn more - Click here for the chair and here for the ottoman. Enjoy!
