The Mental Health Foundation and Empowerment Matters are looking for your views on the provision of NHS Complaints Advocacy Services.

From 1st April 2013, commissioning of NHS Complaints Advocacy Services became the responsibility of Local Authorities to meet the needs of their local populations.

Presently, no compulsory national standards govern provision of NHS Complaints Advocacy Services.

The Mental Health Foundation, the leading UK mental health research policy and service improvement charity, in partnership with Empowerment Matters, a social enterprise with extensive experience in advocacy, have been asked to carry out a timely review of NHS Complaints Advocacy Services by the Department of Health (DH).

The purpose of this review is to identify positive measures and practices that can be implemented across (local and national partners) to help NHS Complaints Advocacy Services maximise their impact and effectiveness.

We are keen to find out the views from stakeholders across the spectrum of commissioning and provision of these services; this includes advocacy providers, staff working in Healthwatches, commissioners, referrers  and people who access/use NHS Complaints Advocacy.

We have devised a short survey to help us capture your views and experiences of those using or referring to NHS Complaints advocacy. You may have used your local NHS Advocacy Complaints Service to:
  • Make a complaint about your own care and/or treatment or experience within the NHS.
  • Make a complaint as a family member/friend on behalf of someone else, either because they were unable to themselves or because they asked you to do this
  • Make a referral as a professional on behalf of someone else.

The survey also includes questions that ask you to consider any changes needed to enhance the  effectiveness of the service. We would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes completing the survey. If you know someone who would be willing to complete the survey please could you forward this to them or get in touch and we can contact them directly.

The timescale for this piece of work is very short with the final report being delivered on 1st April. We would be very grateful if you would take the time to share your experiences for this project by 23rd March 2015 via the link below.
