Canada Games Alumni Well Represented at 2016 Olympics Games in Rio
(August 4th, 2016) Ottawa – Among the sports on the Canada Games program, approximately 40% of Canada's contingent competing at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio are Canada Games alumni.
As in 2014 (43%), 2012 (44%), 2010 (44%) and 2008 (43%), statistics demonstrate how integral the Canada Games are to the development of Canada's next generation of national, international and Olympic champions.
Many Canada Games alumni wearing the red and white in Rio are medal contenders, including sprinting phenom Andre De Grasse, swimming sensation Ryan Cochrane and tennis star Eugenie Bouchard.

Held once every two years, alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition for up and coming Canadian athletes. The Games have been hosted in every province at least once since their inception in Quebec City during Canada’s Centennial in 1967. The Games are proud of their contribution to Canada’s sport development system in addition to their lasting legacy of sport facilities, community pride and national unity.
The 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg are the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games and will be held from July 28th to August 13th.
The 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer will be held from February 15th to March 3rd.
