Excluded book tour retrospective!
I want to start by thanking everyone who came out to my book readings for Excluded: Making Feminist and Queer Movements More Inclusive
during the Fall last year, and for everyone who bought the book and/or helped get the word out about it! I really appreciate it!
For those of you who missed the book tour, no worries, you can listen to my Seattle Excluded book reading at Elliot Bay Books in December
courtesy of the KUOW radio program Speakers Forum.
As always, you can read plenty of excerpts
, and interviews
related to the book on my Excluded webpage
. Some recent additions since my last email update include an excerpt of the chapter "Dating" that appeared in The Daily Beast
, and a lengthy interview with me about the book that appeared on Autostraddle
(who included Excluded
on their Top 10 Queer and Feminist Books of 2013 list
If you haven't picked up a copy of Excluded
, yet, I encourage you to seek it out at your local independent book store
. Or it can be ordered online at independent book stores such as Women and Children First
, Giovanni's Room
, and Powell's Books
, as well as bigger online sellers such as Amazon
and Barnes & Noble
upcoming college presentations!
I have a number of college speaking events coming up over the next couple of months. Here is my current list:
MARCH 4 - Univ. Wisconsin Milwaukee
MARCH 19 - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
MARCH 30 - B'More Proud Conference at John Hopkins University (Maryland)
MARCH 31 - Manchester University (Indiana)
APRIL 1 - Butler University (Indiana)
APRIL 7 - Syracuse University (NY)
APRIL 8 - Vassar College (NY)
APRIL 15 - Rutgers University at Newark
Dates are subject to change and more events may materialize. If you are interested in any of these events, just google my name & the college, and you will likely find all of the relevant details (time, place, etc.). Note: these events are usually intended for students and others at that specific college/university, but are usually open to the general public (although I cannot guarantee this).
As always, if you are a part of a college organization that is interested in possibly bringing me out to your campus, you can find out more by checking out the booking page of my website
Some of you may know (or not) that, in addition to all the writing/spoken word/gender theory stuff that I do, I am also a long-time musician/songwriter. My music has taken a back seat over the last few years, mostly due to the proverbial not-enough-hours-in-the-day problem. But lately I've been able to make some more time for it. So keep an eye out for future updates, as I will soon be announcing the release of new music
and at least one solo music show
in the upcoming months!
In the meantime, I am happy to announce a new development with regards to some of my old music. Specifically, my previous band Bitesize
has *finally* made all of our previous recordings available via Bandcamp
- check out the link to enjoy some of our past noise-pop/indie-rock goodness (or badness, depending upon your perspective). For those unfamiliar with Bandcamp, you can listen to all the songs for free, or purchase downloads if you want.
Also, the Bitesize song "Switch Hitter" is also available on the recent compilation album House Blend, which is a trans-related benefit CD
that features a number of trans artists!
That's it for now. And remember, between updates, you can always check out:
