What's New this MAY
@ Target Specialty Products
In May we recognize National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month. Pests are often triggers of allergy and asthma symptoms, particularly in children. Remind your customers of the importance of controlling rodents, termites, cockroaches and other pests that trigger allergy symptoms when they infest homes. May is also Mold Awareness Month. If you offer mold remediation services as an add-on now is a great time to inform your customers of the importance of mold control in your home.

In this month’s edition of our Advantage eNewsletter don’t miss our featured article from Nicky Gallagher of Syngenta Professional Pest Management, a safety moment on avoiding rear end collisions, the hottest news articles, a list of current Target Specialty Product and manufacturer promotions and more. As always, feel free to pass along our eNewsletter to your colleagues!
Prepping for Mosquito Season: Best Practices for Barrier Applications
Written By: Nicky Gallagher, Technical Services Manager, Syngenta Professional Pest Management
As part of an integrated mosquito management plan, barrier applications can provide a significant reduction in mosquito numbers and bites. This involves treating vegetation like trees, bushes and shrubbery from ground level up to a height of about 10 feet.

Whether you currently offer barrier treatments or are considering entering the mosquito market, here are some important tips to prepare for success.

Termidor® SC Termiticide/Insecticide
Unparallelled Control

Termidor SC Termiticide/Insecticide is 100% effective at controlling termites in three months or less. That's why since its introduction in 2000, pest management professionals have made Termidor America's leading termite control, with over 4 million structures treated.

General Information

Termidor eliminates termites by both ingestion and contact, and is lethal to termites simply through contact with other Termidor-tainted individuals. And because Termidor is a non-repellent - undetectable to termites - the pests freely forage through treated areas, unknowingly ingesting, picking up and transferring Termidor throughout the population. It's the product's unique "Transfer Effect," allowing Termidor to achieve 100% control of termite populations at the very low rate of just 0.06% active ingredient.

This mode of delivery elevates the effectiveness of Termidor termiticide/insecticide to a much higher level than other termiticides. Whenever a termite ingests or touches it, the termite can become a “carrier,” transferring the product to other termites it contacts. These termites in turn can become secondary carriers, behaving normally while they transfer the termiticide to other termites they contact, spreading it like a virus throughout the colony. The unique, spiraling process of this Transfer Effect helps it deliver devastating results to termites and maximize structural protection.

Avoiding Rear-End Collisions
According to the National Highway Safety Administration, rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of accidents. These types of collisions, in which one vehicle strikes the back of another vehicle, are also the most common type of vehicle accident reported to Markel. While very few are deadly, they can cause a wide range of injuries and damages that can impact your organization dramatically.

There may be those that think that rear-end accidents are unavoidable, but that is not always the case. Rear end accidents are often the evidence of following too closely (especially in wet or icy conditions). They also often occur because drivers are distracted or speeding. Rear end accidents are often preventable – a term used by professional drivers wherein the driver strives to do everything reasonable to avoid the collision. There are many (reasonable) steps your organization can encourage and follow to reduce the risks of being involved in a rear end accident.

Ask the Experts
Q: What is the best way to control Doveweed in lawns?
Doveweed (Murdannia and nudiflora) has become a very aggressive and difficult to control weed in warm season turf. It is a summer annual with a grass-like appearance. It has parallel veins and the leaves are narrow and lance-shaped. It flowers throughout the summer (blue and purple clusters). It tends to germinate much later than other summer annual weeds such as crabgrass.
