SECURE DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS - REPLACEMENT OF FAXING
Wellington SCL has complied with the first recommendation and notified the Ministry of Health as requested.
To implement the second recommendation, Wellington SCL will be phasing out all faxing, including faxing of laboratory results, e.g. INR results, critical results, by the end of this year and will be offering a secure email alternative. We will continue to offer other result delivery methods including HL7 electronic results.
We would like all practices, aged care facilities, midwives, private hospitals etc to provide Wellington SCL with an email address where previously faxed patient results can be emailed; this email inbox will need to be monitored frequently.
Please send your practice nominated email address to Wellington SCL using the following email address firstname.lastname@example.org
as soon as possible, so this can be added to the laboratory data base and verified with you.
It is anticipated only one email address per practice is required for urgent/INR results – this will be the default email for all practitioners in the practice.
If individual referrers would like a personal email address added for those occasions when a patient result is required when the doctor is away from the practice this can also be included.
Email address for request forms
For referrers who currently fax patient request forms to the laboratory can you please scan and email them to email@example.com
All request forms sent to this email address will be available to all phlebotomists at any of our collection rooms. Please allow sufficient time for the email to be received and processed.
