SST SLAMS THE NAME SUPPRESION OF SCHOOL
26th December 2015
Sensible Sentencing Trust’s Manawatu spokesperson Scott Guthrie is slamming a Judge’s decision to grant name suppression for a school as carless & endangering to the public.
The accused, a teacher at the school appeared in court on Wednesday 23rd of December charged with raping one of the schools 15 year old pupils.
Sensible Sentencing understands everyone is innocent until proven guilty & probably is entitled to name suppression as is the victim but what about the rights of the parents of other students attending the school? Do they not have the right to at least know what school is involved so they can then make the decision as to whether or not they want their child going to that school?
Guthrie says when contacted, neither the police nor the school would comment, as the matter is still before the courts. The ministry simply stated that they have had a verbal undertaking from the accused that he will not teach until he stands trial which Guthrie finds laughable not to mention a total lack of moral judgement on behalf of the courts who had the power to temporarily suspend the accused’s licence but chose not to.
Once again poor judicial decisions are putting the public at risk & making the victims feel like second rate citizens. END
