Thank You for Your Support!
A list of our supporters can be found on the Supporters page of the website. We thank everyone for their generosity over the last few months, not only for their financial contributions but also donations of clothes, toiletries, electronics and much, much more. From us and the children and teenagers at both homes, thank you! If you would like to support the Amigos, click here.
Recent Happenings
Over the summer the Amigos helped the children and teenagers with their annual summer camps, as well as some special excursions such as a camping trip to Tavira, a boat trip to Spain, and some trips aboard the traditional fishing vessel Alzrinha. The Amigos have also funded various pieces of furniture for the Pirilampos and school supplies for the new school year. Ongoing support includes dental and optical care, and assistance with private medical care where necessary.
Christmas CD
This new and locally made Christmas CD aims to raise funds for the Peta Birch Community Association and Associação Oncológica do Algarve (AOA). The CD features a mix of 14 new and traditional English, Portuguese and German Christmas songs. People will be invited to make a minimum donation of 6 Euros to receive one. Visit this page to find out how to get one.
Wishing you all a very happy festive season 2014 from the Amigos and the children and teenagers from the Pirilampos and Gaivota homes you have helped throughout the year!
August Concert a Hit!
A fundraising event held on August 4 at the the Adega do Cantor in Guia raised in excess of €10,000 for the Peta Birch Community Association. More than five hundred people attended the event, which marked a year since the launch of the Peta Birch Association and was organised to “celebrate and remember the life of Peta Birch”. With many thanks to the Italian SUONIAMO young musicians’ orchestra and Sir Cliff Richard himself, as well as the many people that attended and contributed to our continuing work.

On the same day and time, the Goldra Magical Santa Christmas Fayre will take place at Galo e Touro - Cock and Bull, Almancil with a chance to visit Santa in his grotto. Please bring a shoebox of presents for the children of both homes, aged 1-18, with age and gender written on the box! Visit this link for more information. We hope to see you at one of these events.
Running for the Children
Both the runners in the London and Brigthon Marathons managed to raise just over 3000 Euros from sponsors all over Portugal, the UK and New Zealand. Alex Kenney from Almancil ran the Brighton Marathon, and Eleanor Blanche from New Zealand ran the London Marathon earlier this year for the Amigos. Eleanor was running in memory of her sister Peta Birch, who set up the Amigos and had helped the Santa Casa children for over 35 years. Thank you to Elly and Alex and of course all those that sponsored them!
