Fall in Love with 3D Printing

Fall is upon us and it is high time to fall in love with 3D printing all over again, if not for the first time. After a brief period of stunted growth due to mismatched expectations, the world of desktop 3D printing is again experiencing exponential growth, as evidenced by the large number of 3D printing projects launched on Kickstarter every week and the rekindling of interest in additive manufacturing. The industry is growing rapidly and technology is advancing at a breakneck pace. If you are curious enough to embark on your personal 3D printing journey, who you gonna call? Makerwiz, of course. After all, we carry Canada's largest selection of premium desktop 3D printers. Enough said!

Looking back, we conducted a follow-up troubleshooting session on August 12 for our "How to Build a 3D Printer" workshop attendees. On August 21, we observed the Solar Eclipse from the Ontario Science Centre. On September 3, we visited the Fabrik Creativity Factory exhibit at the Montreal Science Centre. On September 23, we participated in Science Fest held at Markham Public Library Angus Glen Branch as part of Science Literacy Week. On September 25, we attended the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show at the International Centre in Mississauga. On September 28, we attended the Big Drone Show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. On September 29, we were creative sponsors for Pecha Kucha Markham Vol. 16 at the Markham Public Library Markham Village Branch. As the coolness and fullness of Fall continues to grasp us, we will gather to discuss how to build a new one-of-a-kind 3D printer designed exclusively for Makerwiz by our friends at 3D Lounge. We will also be offering free intro workshops to customers who purchase equipment from us. For details on
upcoming events, check out the Current Events section at the bottom of this newsflash. Also, don't forget to sign up to our mailing list to receive future issues of Makerz' Newsflash.

Makerwiz Transformed

As we alluded to in the last issue, our brand new Makerz' Resource Centre will be opening very soon. Due to popular demand, Makerwiz will focus more on organizing maker tech educational events and workshops, thereby truly fulfilling our founding mission of "Inspiring Boundless Creativity". Stay tuned for upcoming workshops covering exciting topics including 3D printing, 3D scanning, 3D design, laser cutting and engraving, CNC milling, drone robotics, aerial videography, wearable electronics, AR/VR, and much more. On the digital fabrication side, we have expanded our capacity for large-scale projects with assistance from our partners at the North Fabtory, a new venture specialized in product incubation and bespoke manufacturing.

Realistic Prototyping

For almost a decade, the holy grail of desktop filament 3D printing has always been using multiple colours/materials and achieving smoothness in the finished print for accurate, realistic prototyping. Fly ahead to Fall 2017, and that vision is finally being realized. Using the new Palette+ machine from Mosaic Manufacturing, users can splice together different filaments to confer multi-colour and multi-material capability to many popular 3D printers, including our award-winning workhorses from MakerBot, LulzBot and CraftBot. Furthermore, soluble support, flexible plastics and hybrid materials can also be used with Palette+ to create functional parts (such as drone accessories for our DJI Spark seen above). Using PolySmooth filaments and the Polysher from Polymaker, makers can produce smooth prototypes that can rival injection molded parts. Makerwiz is proud to be official partners with many of these industry-leading manufacturers. Visit our website or web store today to learn more about our latest products and solutions that can help you achieve incredible results with desktop 3D printing!
