A Note from Neil
Olympic fever took over Dixon Hall this past month!

Many days were spent with our exuberant young campers and vibrant seniors faithfully cheering on Canada and celebrating the accomplishments of our Canadian athletes as they competed in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

At Dixon Hall, we feel so fortunate to be able to serve communities and provide services that embody the Olympic spirit - those of passion, diversity, contagious energy and progress.

Please read on to see how your support as a donor, volunteer or friend of Dixon Hall has made a difference this month.
In Partnership,

Summer Olympics Come to Dixon Hall
"The Olympic spirit is neither the property of one race nor of one age."
Pierre De Coubertin

Such accurate words to describe the fun we had in our Adult Day Programs last week!

Members enjoyed a spirited game of balloon volleyball, as well as a fun-filled soccer match, which included a lot of singing and cheering as both teams battled it out for Olympic glory!

We finished off the day with members reminiscing about watching the Olympics in their youth and cheering for our athletes in Rio.

Going for Gold at our Summer Camp Olympics
Our Summer Camp kids were recently up at a cottage on Dickey Lake in Gilmour for a week having the time of their lives!

Their days were spent swimming, hiking, paddle boarding, engaging in team activities and competing in beach Olympics.

Their nights were spent singing, roasting marshmallows and telling stories around the camp fire.

A first time camper, who never had the chance to experience camping before said, "It's so fun here...I don't want to go home!"

Houzayfa's Basketball Diary
When he was in Grade 6, Houzayfa became the youngest player to ever participate in our basketball league.

It was one day two years ago, when a determined Houzayfa walked into the gym where Mentoring for Violence Prevention (MVP) Coordinator, Ronnie was practicing with a group of Grade 10 high school students, and asked if he could join the team.

He quickly impressed Ronnie with how well he was able to keep up with his much older teammates.

Being a member of Dixon Hall's basketball league means a lot to Houzayfa, who says that our league "was the first time he was a part of any type of sports league."

Housayfa now plays for his school's basketball team and is really excited about the upcoming season. He dreams of one day playing for the Toronto Raptors and winning an NBA championship for his City.

Dixon Hall runs a number of sports leagues - basketball, soccer, cricket and hockey - throughout the year, where players like Houzayfa can work on their skills and make new friends in a fun and supportive environment.
