Armistice Day 11th November
A poignant tribute by Joe Duffy to the Irish who died in World War I
Author and broadcaster Joe Duffy spoke at a commemoration event at Woodenbridge Memorial Park to mark the lives lost in WWI by Irish soliders and civilians, including 1,124 from county Wicklow.
Joe used the occasion to appeal for support for a memorial to the children killed in the 1916 Rising in Dublin, following the destruction of the Necrology Wall in Glasnevin. The wall commemorated equally all of the Irish and British civilian, military, police and rebel dead in the fighting Easter Week 1916.
Thank you to Joe for kindly sending the Princess Grace Irish Library a signed copy of his book 'Children of the Rising' and also a copy of 'Children of the Troubles - The untold story of the children killed in the Northern Ireland Conflict'. The latter book was co-written with author Freya McClements, who is also the Northern Correspondent with The Irish Times.
