Hi Friends,

Last week we dropped a huge announcement. We filed a notice of intent to sue Pacific Gas and Electric for violations of the Endangered Species Act. Along with our allies at California Trout, Trout Unlimited, Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations, and Institute for Fisheries Research, we are seeking to ensure that the company acts swiftly to remove their two fish-killing dams.

The National Marine Fisheries Service has suggested a series of interim protective measures which would ease the burden on Eel River salmonids and should be implemented at the project immediately. We strongly support these interim measures, which include working with wildlife agencies to revise summer flow plans, implement a water temperature management plan, and more.

You can read our press release here, or click here to watch our press conference.

This potential litigation could be a game-changer for the Eel River, and set important precedent for protecting endangered species across the nation. But it is a huge undertaking, and expensive! Please consider supporting this important work with a donation today.

Finally, tune into the latest Eel River dams episode of the EcoNews Report in which we discuss what to expect next in the process to remove the Eel River dams.

For the fish,

Alicia Hamann
