Keep your pets safe this 4th of July!
Hello RCR friends and family! We love celebrating the birth of our nation but we know the facts too - more pets are lost on the 4th of July than any other day! Between July 4 and July 6, lost pets and shelter intake increase by about 30% versus other times of the year. We'd like to help you keep your fur-kids safe with two simple reminders.
If you're hosting a BBQ or party, ask guests to help you practice door & gate control. Before opening either, ask "where's the dog?" to prevent slippery pets from sliding through the gap. When in doubt of how well you can manage the door or gate, give your pet a "cool break" inside or in a spare bedroom. Chances are they'll appreciate a break from the commotion anyway.
Most importantly, be sure to bring your pets inside before the 4th of July festivities begin. Most pets hate fireworks and when they hear them, their priority is usually to GET OUT! You certainly don't want to spend July 5th searching the shelters for your beloved pets! Set a reminder or an alarm on your phone an hour before the fireworks in your area are due to start. Give your pet a nice bone or stuffed Kong, turn on some music, and enjoy those bright lights with your human friends instead.
