Newsletter n°1 - 2016

Dear Reader,

Municipalities join efforts for sustainable and concrete energy solutions - this is the slogan chosen by the PEACE_Alps team during the project’s kick-off meeting in Kranj in April 2016. Meanwhile we have explored the core objectives of Energy Action Plans in our regions and have started the bottom up input of municipalities and main stakeholders.

Overview


PEACE_Alps tackles the problems related to the implementation of Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) or any other Energy concepts already endorsed by Local Authorities in Alpine Space Area. The project will support about 100 Local Authorities in developing concrete actions with an inter municipal approach.

PEACE_Alps partnership is composed of 11 partners coming from 6 different European countries. Moreover the project relies on 25 Observers including the Covenant of Mayor of Brusselles.

Defining the needs of Alpine municipalities


The Desk Research – conducted by Ökoinstitut Südtirol/Alto Adige – has been finalized; it was the last step of the Work Package 3. The WP3 of the project PEACE aims to define the basic needs of the municipalities of the Alpine region that took part in the project.

Project kick-off at the inter-municipal energy forum in the Bavarian Oberland


PEACE_Alps proceeds by identifying local need using a bottom up process. As kick-off in the region of the Bavarian Oberland,  EWO organized a start-up forum on 28 June, 2016 in the city hall of Geretsried, Germany. The inter-municipal energy-forum was attended by numerous mayors, district administrators, regional and local energy and climate experts.

PEACE_Alps at the 60th Meeting of the Permanent Committee of the Alpine Conference


At the 60th meeting of the Permanent Committee of the Alpine Convention on 25th of February 2016 in Innsbruck, two particularly successful Interreg Alpine Space projects were invited by the German Presidency to be presented.

Effects of climate change in the Rhône-Alpes region and the question of adaptation


To help local authorities to implement SEAPs, Rhônalpénergie-Environnement (RAEE) works on two observatories: OREGES on Green Gas emissions and energy and ORECC on climate change.

Gorenjska to become an energy-independent region


At the Council of the Gorenjska Region, the municipalities of Gorenjska decided to draw up a Sustainable Energy Plan for Gorenjska. Unlike an isolated approach, a synergy-based approach to the issue of sustainable development enables the achievement of better results.

New Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy


Since the introduction of the Covenant of Mayors in 2008, over 6500 cities from all over the EU and its neighbourhood have joined this unique bottom-up initiative. Thanks to this success story, the Mayors Adapt initiative was launched last year.
