Mountains of Data Summit

Many national datasets exist to aid researchers, program planners, interventionists and policy makers to keep a finger on the pulse of the US health and can be carefully mined to provide valuable formative data to explore relationships. The data affords investigators a venue to gain preliminary data to explore potential relationships of nutrients, functional foods or food patterns to numerous risk factors and health outcomes, which can be used to support targeted interventions. However, these rich sources of data are grossly underutilized because they require special expertise to manage such large quantities of data. The Food Innovation Center seeks to foster understanding and promote effective use of big data.

Join Christopher Taylor and his nutrition data research team for the Mountains of Data Summit at the Ross Heart Hospital auditorium this Friday, January 24, 2014 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Lunch will be provided. OSU faculty, staff, and students are welcome. Current and potential users of large datasets are encouraged to attend. Learn best practices, opportunities and pitfalls of big data.

Click here to view the agenda and event program.

Seating was limited to the first 100 registrants. Due to the popularity of this event, we are currently at capacity. However, if you would like to be placed on the waitlist for participation in the full program (including lunch) OR you have an interest in one particular speaker (not including lunch), please call the Food Innovation Center at (614) 292-0229.  We do anticipate several openings and will work to include everyone interested in attending.

CIFT Ohio Food Expo

Since 1995, the Center for Innovative Food Technology (CIFT) has provided technical solutions to companies involved in some of Ohio’s largest and most economically significant industries: food production, processing, and packaging.

The Ohio Food Industry Expo will be held where food manufacturers and auxiliary service providers can convene to discover new techniques, learn of industry trends, and identify valuable resources that will strengthen the already sizable industry of more than 1,000 food manufacturers in Ohio.
