Your voice gets heard
As you know, in the last weeks OceanCare has reached out to the European Commission, numerous governments within the European Union and beyond, including to the governments of Denmark and the Faroe Islands, and we are in direct contact with decision makers and colleagues all over the world.
Good news 1
On October 14th, EU Commissioner for the environment, oceans and fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, took a clear position and reached out to the Faroese Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen urging him to stop these hunts. It is very positive to see that the EU Commission bilaterally called for both the whale and dolphin hunts to end as soon as possible and called it an “unnecessary & controversial practice”.
Tweet from the EU Commissioner for environment, oceans and fisheries taking a clear position on the issue.
Good news 2
29 Members of the EU Parliament concerned with animal welfare related matters have sent a letter to the Danish Government, strongly condemning the dolphin hunt that happened on 12th September and calling for a ban of the Grindadráp.

What's next?
The increasing political and public pressure is very positive. On the other hand, we regret that individual EU governments remain largely silent so far. We will now step up our outreach to EU Member States as they should publicly condemn the killing of whales and dolphins and engage in bilateral and international negotiations towards ending this unnecessary and cruel practice in the Faroe Islands.

We will not rest until whales and dolphins in European waters are safe from being hunted.
Please continue sharing the call to sign our petition!

Thank you for all your support.
