Quote of the Week:
“As followers of Jesus, we believe each person is precious and loved by God. Right now, the scale of this crisis requires us to work together to provide protection and refuge to those who are in danger.”
Rev Sharon Hollis, UCA President
Hi <<First Name>>,

September has arrived and we're happy to see our Sustainable September, Earth, Sea and Sky resources are being accessed on our ecochurcheswa.org website in preparation.  if you are planning a service in September and haven't had a look at these resources yet we encourage you check them out! Our focus on Sustainability brings us back year after year to pray for and work for a world for all to share, both now and in the future. The resources are prepared by the Social Justice Commission and coincide with the ecumenical time of Season of Creation,
Share your stories!  We love hearing from congregations who are planning events or special services as part of Sustainable September so please feel welcome to share these with us either via email or by tagging SocialJusticeUCWA on facebook.  You'll see in our events section there are two screenings of Albatross coming up - one this Saturday in the city, and one in Margaret River for those in the south west.

Last week we sent out an email asking for feedback on our fortnightly Update.  If you haven't had a chance to respond you can still do so here.

The Annual Synod meeting of the Uniting Church in WA is taking place on the 10 - 12 September.  As well as sharing reports of our work, the Social Justice Unit is supporting a number of proposals being brought forward by our commissions covering topics of 'Ending Preventable Deaths in Custody', 'Solidarity with West Papua' and 'Preventing Harm from Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity Change Efforts (SOGICE)'.  The proposals can be found on the UCWA website here. Stay tuned for updates on these proposals in future correspondence.

For the sake of justice and peace,

Geoff & Wendy

Forward Forward
The Uniting Church Synod of Western Australia acknowledges the Wadjuk people of the Noongar nation, on whose land our Synod office stands. We acknowledge their elders past and present, and their people.

At its 7th Assembly the Uniting Church formally entered into a relationship of Covenant with its Indigenous members, recognising and repenting for the Church’s complicity in the injustices perpetrated on Australia’s Indigenous community, and pledging to move forward with a shared future. Congress’ generous response to this statement, among other messages, called upon the broader Church to take up the mission of reconciliation.

The ongoing and continually renewing nature of the Covenant calls the Uniting Church to continually act to remove the systems and structures of discrimination and oppression in Australia. The Uniting Church works for just, inclusive and equal relationships, recognising the place of First Peoples in Australia.
