2015 Fair Date & New Venue!

The 2015 LRSEF is approaching us faster than we realize! This year we will begin a new three year partnership with the Kentucky Science Center to host the annual fair in this exciting downtown location. Projects will be integrated into the Center's thematic exhibits on all three floors, allowing students to explore not only other LRSEF displays, but related hands-on activities as well. The public will be invited to meet LRSEF participants and hear about their independent research projects during periodic breaks in judging.

Dates and Times
Set-up: Friday, March 6, 6pm-9pm EST
Fair Day: Saturday, March 7, 9am-5pm EST
Snow Day: Sunday, March 8, 9am-5pm EST (first day of Daylight time)

Expanded Footprint

This year, the LRSEF has expanded from serving 13 counties to a total of 57!  This includes 15 counties in the Louisville Metro Region, 18 in the Southern Region, and 24 in the Western Region. Students can participate in the LRSEF after being selected as a winning project at their school or county fair.

If NO locally accessible fair is held, any student in grades 6-12 living in these 57 counties may register directly to enter the LRSEF with the support of their teachers. See for full details.

Profile of Chitra Kumar

This month we are profiling our new student board member and former LRSEF first place winner, Chitra Kumar. Chitra is a senior at Ballard High School where she pursues her love of science. One day she hopes to study-abroad in Spain, attend medical school and become a neurosurgeon. Here is what she has to say about her experiences at the Louisville Regional Science & Engineering Fair and the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair.

“I am not a genius…My project didn’t find the cure for cancer or solve global warming. It just helped me learn more about the brain -- a subject I’m really interested in. LRSEF gave me the chance to meet some amazing people throughout Louisville and gain more experience at communicating my ideas. It gave me the chance to participate at International Science Fair (ISEF). Hands down, I had the best time of my life at Intel ISEF [in Los Angeles] and it wouldn’t have been possible without LRSEF and our sponsors."

Chitra was elected on September 30 to serve on the LRSEF Board of Directors as a student member for this school year. We welcome her input on how to make the 2015 fair more meaningful for all student participants.
